Simple Chili Crunch

✦ Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup chopped almonds

  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds

  • 3/4 cup olive oil

  • 1/3 cup chili flakes (or crushed dried chilies)

  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (adjust to taste)

  • 1/2 teaspoon coconut sugar or maple sugar
    (or a small drizzle of honey after cooling)

✦ Instructions:

1. Toast the Almonds & Sesame
• In a dry pan over medium-low heat, toast almonds until golden and fragrant (about 3–4 minutes).
• Add sesame seeds in the last 30–60 seconds. Stir constantly.
• Remove from heat and set aside.

2. Infuse the Oil
• In a small saucepan, heat olive oil over very low heat.
• Stir in chili flakes, salt, and sugar (or wait to add honey after cooling).
• Let it gently infuse for 5–10 minutes, making sure the oil stays warm but not sizzling.

3. Combine
• Stir in the toasted almonds and sesame seeds.
• Let the mixture cool completely.

4. Store
• Transfer to a clean jar.
• Store at room temperature for up to 3 weeks (or refrigerate for longer shelf life — bring to room temp before using).
